Everything feels off - especially me. I've returned to Katmere Academy, but I'm haunted by fragments of days I have no recollection of living and struggling to understand who, or what, I really am. Just when I start to feel safe again, Hudson is back with a vengeance.
He insists there are secrets I don't know about, threatening to drive a wedge between Jaxon and me forever. But far worse enemies are at our doorstep. The Circle is caught in a power play and the Vampire Court is trying to drag me out of my world and into theirs.
The only thing Hudson and Jaxon agree on is that leaving Katmere would mean my certain death. And not only am I fighting for my life, but now everyone else's is at stake - unless we can defeat an unspeakable evil. All I know is that saving the people I love is going to require sacrifice.
Maybe more than I'm able to give. .................. Don't miss a single book in the series that spawned a phenomenon! <spoiler><spoiler>That ending? Crazy. Loved it. This book carried that same addicting writing style served in bite-sized chunks that kept me hooked. At first, I hated that I loved Hudson. I thought of him as the villain, and I hated the fact that Wolff was managing to make me smile and giggle and squee over him. And thennnn the rest of the book happened and I no longer hate it. I love Hudson so much, and I surprisingly love their chemistry wayyyyy more than Grace and Jaxon. Jaxon started really annoying me towards the middle, and I was actually shipping Grace and Jaxon with other people despite not knowing what was coming. This book felt nothing like 728 pages, and I love that. I want more. Now with all the praise i have for this book, I do have a couple gripes. The lore and worldbuilding isnt very consistent, but I dont mind it. I like the characters enough to turn a blind eye at the inconsistencies. But i do see them. Mainly the fact that shifting/their monster sides are referred to as "her gargoyle" or "his dragon" when that doesn't particularly make sense to me when they are that race. Its not a separate entity. But whatever, I like the book anyway. Its not a profound read, but its a fun one. And i love it for that. Note: the coming out scene was weird and stilted</spoiler></spoiler>
