Two writers get a second chance at love in this romantic, sexy-as-hell New York Times bestselling novel by the author of A Love Song for Ricki Wilde. "Smart, sexy. I absolutely loved it." —Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author of My Sister's Keeper “Gutting, arousing, and sparklingly witty … a love story with depth.” —Vogue Eva Mercy is a single mom and bestselling erotica writer.

Shane Hall is a reclusive, award-winning novelist. When the two meet at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but the eyebrows of the Black literati. What no one knows is that when they were teenager, Eva and Shane spent one crazy week madly in love.

They can pretend they've never met, but they can’t deny their chemistry—or the fact that they’ve been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years. With its keen observations of creative life in America today, as well as the joys and complications of being a mother and a daughter, Seven Days in June is a hilarious starcrossed romance. OMG this was soooo good!!! From the “feelings ninja” daughter to the whirlwind of past and present povs of the two MCs I could NOT put this down. I love the "one that got away" vibes and that they were writers using their novels to communicate over the years, such a cute and fun concept with some deep rooted history and struggles these characters were working on overcoming, mostly apart, then together. I will definitely be reading more books from this author. 🌶️ 3/5 the spice in this was delicious, so much tension built up from the years they spent apart. The magnetism you can just feel when they are together. Add in the top tier banter, chefs fucking kiss.

I really struggled with what to rate this. It had been on my TBR for years and I'd had such high hopes for it, but it just didn't quite live up. And the odd thing is that for all the things I found unique and memorable throughout the book, those very same things are also things I felt potentially detracted from focus of the story. For example, I really appreciated how wide the cast of characters was. It was so interesting how we got the points of view not just of the MCs, but of side characters like Eva's mom and daughter, the editor Eva and Shane work with, and the boy Shane is mentoring. It lent the book a slightly more literary tone that I think is very difficult to find in modern romance novels. But on the other hand, getting these POVs took page space away from the development of Eva and Shane's relationship, which I never felt was fleshed out to its fullest. I also liked the inclusion of Shane and Eva's individual struggles (especially Eva's; it was so refreshing to have a "functionally" disabled MC who struggled with coping with it), but again, the page space dedicated to them took the reader’s time and energy away from what was supposed to be the central plot. I was also lowkey disappointed by the fact that the book started as laugh-out-loud hilarious, but didn’t maintain that humor throughout. Sure, there were very funny moments, but I wished it had kept that tone more consistently. Overall, I found this book to be enjoyable and memorable, but it wasn't everything I'd hoped for. I would definitely like to read again from the author in the future, because there were a lot of good things in this. I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a good second-chance romance, single-parent romance, or you want to take a break from the formulaic rom-coms reigning supreme these days.
