2.75⭐ Cole is mostly devoid of emotions, but he does say that "What I do feel, I feel intensely: rage, revulsion, and pleasure." He becomes obsessed with Mara and develops feelings for her, which he doesn't know what to do with. He is an egotistical artist and serial killer with a god complex (which Mara buys into as well). He is also filthy rich, drop-dead gorgeous, manipulative, and calculating. Mara is a poor artist trying to make a name for herself in the art world. She is also strong willed, stubborn, and resilient. The back & forth battle between Shaw and Cole is interesting. Cole's machination for the first time they would meet after their "outdoor encounter" was pretty smart & diabolical. Mara is a puzzle to Cole that he wants to figure out, and he becomes more and more obsessed with her. Though he still plans on killing her when he thinks someone else might kill her instead, he doesn't want the other person to get to do it and wants to make it painless for her. Not getting the logic there. A couple of things went beyond what I could suspend belief for One being that after he just walked right past her knowing she was going to die, she was fine spending time with him after, and was still attracted to him shortly after, he should have had to work harder for her to forgive him for that. Second was that after she was kidnapped and left bound and bleeding, she escaped and flagged down a car for help in the middle of nowhere. Then, when taken to the hospital, they assumed she tried to kill herself despite evidence of zip ties binding her ankles and wrists that she struggled to remove, her being outside practically naked in a bondage outfit with her nipples just pierced, and a bump on her head where she was knocked unconscious. Yeah, that sounds like a normal suicide attempt, not to mention the fact that there is a serial killer on the loose in the city. So despite all that I just mentioned, the cop just thinks she is lying and that it was a simple case of attempted suicide. Come on, the author got lazy there and could have easily had something like a crooked cop destroy evidence or make the report disappear or make it somewhat believable Overall, this was a unique premise, but I was not feeling any romance between the MCs. *“You’re a slave to what you love. The things you hate repulse you,” Cole says, in that low, hypnotic tone. “I knew if I learned everything I could about you . . . there’s nothing I couldn’t make you do . . .” *

This was fun, dark and twisty, with cat & mouse vibes. The FMC was ballsy, I loved that about her. I enjoy reading about strong female leads, despite being presented as physically weaker, theres different ways to wield power and Mara knows how to wield her strengths. She's resilient and defiant, I also love that they are artists and in spite of the shit hand she's been dealt she finds a way to just push through, take a sad song and make it better. Looking forward to the next book. 🌶️ 3.5/5 Spice and tension in this was pretty hot. It was a bit of a slow burn, but I enjoyed reading the MMC soften over time to his feelings. The playlist and instruction when to play each song was awesome! Loved the first studio scene, slay girl! Then theres the other studio scene... true love is a home made giant hitachi and aftercare with David Bowie haha.
