Below Zero
From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella…
It will take the frosty terrain of the Arctic to show these rival scientists that their chemistry burns hot.
Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn…
Hannah’s got a bad feeling about this. Not only has the NASA aerospace engineer found herself injured and stranded at a remote Arctic research station—but the one person willing to undertake the hazardous rescue mission is her longtime rival.
Ian has been many things to Hannah: the villain who tried to veto her expedition and ruin her career, the man who stars in her most deliciously lurid dreams…but he’s never played the hero. So why is he risking everything to be here? And why does his presence seem just as dangerous to her heart as the coming snowstorm?

𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙾𝚗𝚎 𝙻𝚒𝚗𝚎𝚛: Hannah is a scientist who gets in a dangerous pickle in the Arctic & it’s up to sweet Ian to save her. ❄️ 𝙼𝚢 𝚃𝚑𝚘𝚞𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚜: This is the 3rd book I read this year. And though it’s a short read I still really liked it. It’s the 5th book I read by 𝙰𝚕𝚒 𝙷𝚊𝚣𝚎𝚕𝚠𝚘𝚘𝚍 and I do like her characters. They are similar with the female being a manic pixie dream girl and the guys are all 𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦 𝑇𝐴𝐿𝐿. Yup, we get it Ali, these hunks are really tall. The females, especially Hannah, are all scientists just trying to get ahead in their career within a male dominated field. Ian is absolutely adorable and I just love him! I ended up highlighting two quotes about him, but there spoilers so I can’t really use them. It’s fine because there’s so many lovely quotes that I’m still finding from just this short novella. Oh and it’s the 3rd in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑇𝐸𝑀𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑠𝑡 𝑁𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑎𝑠 but it could be read as a stand-alone. The steam 🌶️ & feels is about 3 of 5 level. And this gets all my love for my new #bookboyfriend Ian. ❄️ “𝐻𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑢𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑠𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑛𝑜𝑤. ⭐3/5 🌶️3/5 📖 My Thoughts You may hate how predictable Ali is, but I love it. The woman knows how to write endearing, unique women which is the sole focus of her books. The men typically follow a strict formula that Ali has set. I've come to see them as literal statues of confirmation of why these women are amazing and shouldn't doubt themselves. That all being said, I wasn't as big of a fan of these two. Maybe it was all a little fast-paced, we needed more build-up and backstory for them to grow on me? I'm not sure but regardless, I love the way Ali always brings her characters to life. ⚠️ Trigger Warnings Graphic: Sexual content, Injury/Injury detail, Cursing Minor: Misogyny, Sexism, Trafficking 🌶️ Spice The spice in this wasn't as hot as usual if I'm being honest. The guy was maybe a little passive and boring in ways. Also, we were just talking about sexual icks in my book server and tongue in the belly button is definitely a NO.

This was just as cute as the last two in this series for me. Was it classic Ali formula and pretty similar to the books about her friends, yes it was. But I still absolutely ate this up, the sweet green flag nature of Ali’s male leads is some something I have been eating up. I loved the connection between the main characters right from the start, I also liked the reunion at the end that was super cute.

This started out slow, but picked up about 20% in. Its a quick read and my last Ali novel (thats published) - I have completely exhausted the collection... sad face... I liked this one better than the other 2 novellas. The build up with these MCs was really good, a little miscommunication, but resolved quickly. Mutual pining for the win! 🌶️ 2.5/5 DUDE why you gotta ruin belly buttons - smut was solid here once it finally spiced. And that early on encounter daaaammmn so hot!

Hannah needs to interview someone in the field of study she wants a job in for a class. Her friend, Mara, gives her the number to her cousin, Ian, who works for NASA. She interviews him, and they have an instant connection, but Hannah doesn't date. Five years later, she is working at NASA and proposes an expedition to do research in Norway. Her proposal is denied by Ian, and she thinks that he's an ass for doing so but still ends up with the funding to go ahead with it. Events occur, and she realizes why Ian denied her proposal. This was a cute short story.
