This is just like a couple beefy boys, who both have castles, fighting over a woman they think is their toy. There’s not a ton of build up for relationship with the person you “know” is supposed to be endgame and the FMC. It’s obvious you are supposed to hate Lorne - he is fucking disgusting. I feel like Atlas had potential to be really hot/sexy, but theres no working up to that tension with her and him, he’s just like there and insta loves the FMC slash starts chasing her. Then the MMCs spend the first 90% fighting over her affections in a super cringe way. Ivy and Elana’s relationship was what made this more bearable, but doesn’t make sense with her dad… who was dealt with way too conveniently. Wheres the suspense? Dude was a thriller writer ffs, AND built a straight up murder house American Horror Story Hotel style - which we spend like 3 pages in… I really loved some of this authors other books, I think this one just wasn’t for me. I like seeing artwork in books, but I think this one threw off my own visual image of the characters, it wasn’t bad though. Also, I did like the audio, the accent for Elana’s character was well done. 🌶️ 3/5 spice was ok, seemed forced lacking in momentum. Ending was anticlimactic, and the last ch or so was just smut that was obvious but not very exciting.
