Do not touch the sword. Do not turn the key. Do not open the gate.
Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange alchemical powers she possesses, or the fact that she has been stealing from the Undying Queen for most of her twenty-four years. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it’s bound to come undone.
When Saeris is caught stealing something she shouldn’t, she accidentally reopens a dormant gateway between realms and is whisked away to a land of ice and snow. There, she discovers that the Fae—creatures of legend and nightmare—are not only real, but they are caught up in a centuries-long conflict that might just get her killed.
After inadvertently binding herself to a secretive and incredibly powerful Fae warrior named Kingfisher, Saeris quickly learns that he will use her secret magic to protect his people, no matter what it costs him… or her.
Be careful of the deals you make, dear child. The devil is in the details...

That wasn’t bad, but I just didn’t like the writing style so it wasn’t for me. I do see why people love it though!

6 ⭐️ This is my favourite read of the year, I knew this was going to be good and yet it still blew my expectations out of the water. New shadow daddy 👀👀 say less. I would DIE for kingfisher, he’s quickly become my all time favorite book boyfriend (or at least very close). The fmc was also so funny and badass I adore her, there is such a good cast of characters in this series with amazing found family vibes. I also highly recommend that everyone listens to this audiobook it had dual narration (single POV) and the voices for Ren and Kingfisher specifically are going to live rent free in my head forever. THE SPICE! Edit: Reread done and I have so many more questions and theory’s this time around! I’ve had such a good reading year that I was really scared that this wouldn’t hold up. But honestly I loved it just as much as last time if not more. Immersive read is such a must for this series because the voice actors are phenomenal. I loved every single character even more than I did on my first read, especially with the edition of the bonus chapters. Truly would do unspeakable things for Kingfisher. Oh expect Everlayne I thought she was a bitch this time 🫣

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Favorite line: “She said, when I needed you most, you’d come blazing into my life like a meteorite, riding on a wave of chaos that would turn my whole world upside down. That you’d shine so brilliantly that you’d light up hell itself and guide me out of the darkness. She had no idea what your name would be. Just that you’d have dark hair, and a beautiful smile. And that I’d love you with a fierceness despite myself.” 📖 My thoughts Gods and martyrs, this is a new favorite of mine. Ladies, we have a new shadow daddy that we're gonna have to share. I loved both Saeris and Kingfisher so much; their chemistry, tension, and personalities. They had me on my metaphorical knees begging. The plot for the story wasn't overly complex but it was not lacking either. I found the plot quite incredible to be honest. Plus, the paranormal elements were well done and intriguing. It's rare to be able to imagine myself within a story and visualize what is being explained, but this story came to life in my mind. The cliffhanger wasn't bad; they leave you off on a good note while letting you know that there is more work to be done regarding the plot. ⚠️ Trigger Warnings Graphic: Sexual content, Violence, War Moderate: Blood, Gore, Murder Minor: Infertility, Vomit, Suicidal thoughts 🌶️ Spice The spice in this was so incredible and had more than a couple scenes. Kingfisher had me panting and drooling with his words. Callie knows how to write great smut. Also, totally recommend this on audio as its dual. The narrators for both Saeris and Kingfisher during spicy scenes was truly pornographic and delicious. Follow my Instagram

I loved the sass and attitude, the back and fourth was so good and brought a lot of humour to this story. Which was a good balance for the fighting and drama, as well as all the information. I think at some point I will have to do a re read cause so much happens. But the characters and story are genuinely so interesting. As well as the magic system, and there are a lot of twists and turns. I’m excited for the next book!

I guess I can understand why people really like this (Kingfisher 🥵) but it was just underwhelming to me. I didn’t like the FMC, imo the plot was kind of meandering for no reason, and it definitely didn’t feel like it needed to be nearly 700 pages. I’m sure it doesn’t help that I didn’t really care for the audiobook performance and I’m not a vampire girlie, so that plot line was like a final nail in the coffin (no pun intended). Will I read the sequel? Only for book club.

4.5 stars I found some of the dialogue cringey which is why I couldnt rate it a full 5 stars but otherwise, oh my god???? I'm so glad I've read it so close to Brimstone's release because I can't imagine having to wait for the sequel for so long.
