The Predator
What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object in the field of death? In the dark underbelly of the mob, Tristan Caine has been an anomaly. As the only non-blooded member in the high circle of the Tenebrae Outfit, he is an enigma to all - his skills unparalleled, his morality questionable, and his motives unknown.
He is lethal and he knows it. As does Morana Vitalio, the genius extraordinaire daughter of the rival family. What Caine does with weapons, Morana does with computers.
When a twenty-year old mystery resurfaces, Morana infiltrates Caine's house, intent on killing him, unaware of a tie that binds them together. Hate, heat, and history clash together with unexpected sparks. But something bigger, something worse is happening in their world.
And despite their animosity, only they can fight it down. The Predator is an enemies-to-lovers, dark, contemporary romance set in a fictional universe with mafia, passion and incredible storytelling.

Perhaps my expectations were too high with all the rave reviews of this series, but I found it very slow going and boring in the first 40%, after which it did pick up a little. I was disappointed that there was very little interaction between the MCs, it was more about the mystery surrounding why Tristan hates her so much and also what happened to her code and why it looks like Tristan was set up to look like he was behind the theft. Both Morana & Tristan hated that they wanted each other. Tristan was constantly saving her and giving her refuge at his home. He always seemed to be trying to protect her. From almost the very first, she felt safe with Tristan, even when he made it clear he hated her and he would be the only one to kill her. I do feel bad for Morana, with a father like she has. Tristan had it a lot worse, Lorenzo was beyond monstrous to him in his childhood. Dante & Amara were very likable side characters, I wonder how there story will progress. I will be reading the next book and hoping it picks up a bit and gets the answers to the myriad questions left unanswered. He continued, like she hadn’t spoken, cupping her ass. “I’m a territorial man. And this has been mine since the moment you locked that bathroom door.” Tristan Caine: I don’t think anyone can handle you. Not if you don’t want to be handled. He was going to become the scariest of them all. Saving her had destroyed him. One day, he vowed as he watched a man pick up the little girl and take her away, his eyes on her, he would collect his debt. The fact that he’d survived all of what he had and not rid himself of that need to protect said more about him than anything ever could, more than he could ever show. He felt so deeply he didn’t let himself feel. He felt so deeply he feared his own reactions to it. “I’m just happy to have you. In my life and especially in Tristan’s. He’s… he’s spent twenty years in pain without acknowledging it. I love him, Morana. He’s like a brother I never knew I had. And he’s been through so much, so alone… just…” He never shows weakness. He doesn’t expect anyone to stay with him, stay for him. That’s a reason why he doesn’t trust anyone. So, please, this is my only request to you, Morana. Please don’t encourage him to trust you if you’re going to leave in the end.” Her life mattered everything to him. He was making it matter to her again.

I re-read this book for the first time in about 2 years and I still really enjoyed it! There are scenes from this book that really stuck with me. The window scene, the bathroom scene, the graveyard scene.. amazing. There are some things that also took me away from the story. I felt like this was more of a “I’m hurt so I cover it with hatred” than it was an enemies to lovers tale. The excessive use of “I’m going to kill you” got old quickly as well. There were a few scene that I read and went “that’s just not realistic”, but I did really enjoy this book and am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
