At the start of this book I was enjoying it only more than the first one and was loving the enemies to lovers to enemies again with all of the tension and not to mention one bed trope 😘 Unfortunately the ending just kinda fell flat for me, I don’t know if it’s because I was doing the audiobook and not paying as much attention to it as I should have been but I was just expecting a little more from the end. One good thing about this series is the dual POV of Rune and Gideon, I honestly think all books should be multi or dual POV it just adds so much to the story getting different points of view on what’s going on.

I am not here for the miscommunication trope taking up 2 whole books 🫠 I listened to the audiobook and the amount of times the words “bang” and “clang” are used is crazy, it really broke up the flow and ruined the experience.

“I may not know Rune Winters, but I know the Crimson Moth. And she is no caged thing.” 💭 My thoughts My thoughts on this duology has bounced around a bit. When I first read Heartless Hunter, I wasn't impressed and was a little annoyed with the plot, but after rereading and thinking through it, I enjoyed it a lot more. Honestly, more than I enjoyed this one. Somehow the second book felt more YA than the first one. For the majority of the book, we're following Rune and Gideon as they try to decipher their feelings for one another while enemies from both sides sort of dance around. Some of the plot points revealed were predictable and touched on briefly, then we were back to Rune and Gideon playing tag. Don't get me wrong, I loved their characters and felt their story and the world-building had so much more potential. ⚠️ Trigger warnings Graphic: Blood, War, Death Moderate: Sexual content, Sexual assault, Torture Minor: Homophobia, Slavery, Suicidal thoughts [Follow my Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/inkstainedemotions?igsh=aTh6eTZ6dGwxMXpy&utm_source=qr)

What a perfect duology for fantasy lovers. Outstanding characters, plot, while pretty predictable at times, was also well done and had really good pacing. There were a couple things I did not think were true to the characters in this one, but I also get the decision for how it unfolded and what those things added to the story so Im not mad about it and would definitely recommend to friends. 🌶️ .5/5 The 2 MCs in this were still very much will they wont they for legit 90% of this book. At some point in a series this short they need to just make a decision to fight together and this constant back and forth shouldnt be the primary plot when so much other shit is going on outside of them. I would lean more on book one if we are going strictly off tension and spice, even though that one wasnt very spicy, the "will they wont they" trope felt a little tired by the end of this one.

this wine was just a bit of a letdown in comparison to the first book. the stakes felt lower and the plot was a bit meandering. it was just... fine.
