let me say up front: is this the greatest thing I've ever read? no. do I think it is groundbreaking or revolutionary in some way? also no. does it really (objectively) deserve five stars? maybe not. but this scratched a really specific itch for me. I am a sucker for Nutcracker retellings and I picked this up on a whim, expecting it to be mid. I was shocked when it slapped. the romances were fun, the spice was spicy, and the plot was engaging. it was just a really fun, un-put-down-able wild ride.

Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ A Court of Sugar and Spice is a total gem. It’s a retelling of The Nutcracker but with fae. The adventure is intense, the fight scenes are epic, and the romance is chef’s kiss. There are two love stories in this one, and they’re both so different but so good. Fin and Clara’s insta-love is adorable, and I’m obsessed with them - definitely in my top 10 romance couples. Seriously, they have my whole heart. On the other hand, Louisa and Lir’s enemies-to-lovers thing was a bit tougher to get into. I’ll be honest, I found them both a little intolerable at first, but by the last few chapters, I was rooting for them too. I loved the book from start to finish, and I can't wait to jump into the next one!
