I was worried for a second at the start of this book because for the first couple chapters the fmc was really annoying to me. Once things really started to get going tho I ended up loving her and the story. I do think that I liked Phantasma a little bit more than I liked this one but it was still a really fun read. The audiobooks for this series are really good and I definitely recommend them. I’m ready for the next book 👀👀 🌶️ 3/5 I like that the spice in this book felt different then it did in book 1.

Full respect to the author for two really interesting premises for this series, but the real pain of this book is knowing that our protagonist has plot armor and therefore will likely not suffer the consequences of her truly dimwitted actions. For a person who’s told repeatedly that she will die if she does not play this game by its horrible rules, she does not know when to quit running her mouth. And she is the sole reason that she’s there in the first place, through her own scheming and secrets. Also, this book has made me begin to really dislike the whole “shadow daddy” concept in fantasy novels. Shadows are non-corporeal, non-physical things, and yet they’re treated as these objects of high sex appeal. It’s baffling. And one more thing, the use of the word “fucking” so much, combined with the lip and PENIS piercings??? in my early 1900s novel? You’re joking. Don’t play with me… ugh!
