2.5, rounded to 3⭐️ Changing my rating on this one because as time has gone on, I’ve kind of forgotten the constant questions and I feel like it wasn’t bad enough to rate 2 star, seeing as the writing style was nice and easy. I just hope that if I read the next one, the author will have read the reviews and reduce the way the fmc is constantly questioning everything. Also need more of the guardian, I feel like we didn’t really get to know how, he’s kind of a stranger to me even though he was the MMC. I do still stand by my statement that the fmc has the personality of a potato but I did see her developing towards the end, so hopefully we get more depth from her as the series progresses. Original review: 2⭐️ That sucked. Never have I ever experienced such an annoying inner monologue in a book, girl asked such pointless questions 24/7 as well. The word count was so unnecessary, if we could have just removed her pointless thoughts, we might have been left with 200 pages filled with decent content. I feel like the main character had the personality of a potato.

More thoughts to come later but I just need to say I absolutely LOVED that. There were a lot of things I seen coming but the last 10 chapters my mind was absolutely blown by things I wasn’t expecting at all. I cannot wait for the rest of this series. ~~ Edit: I went into this completely blind only knowing that the first edition of this book was stunning and that I had read a novella by this author and liked it. Another great romantasy read that I didn’t want to put down. I loved all of the magical creatures created for this world. The fmc of this book asked so many questions just like a child would and I absolutely ate it up, she was asking everything we wanted to know and also everything no one else was thinking. It had a good amount of twists that I didn’t see coming and a great dynamic between the fmc and the mmc. I loved the chemistry between them and can’t wait to see more of them. And that ending! Had me screaming. Book two when because I need to find out what is going to happen next and I have so many questions and theories. ~~ Edit x2: OKAY, I finished my reread in preparation for rites of the starling and I loved it just as much if not more than I did the first time. Even more theories and questions! I can’t wait to dig in tomorrow and see how everything starts to come together, I’m so excited to be back in this world with these character.

This book had all the ingredients for a good book and something I should love. Fantasy element, secrets, intrigue, magical systems and more. However, I just never fell in love with it. I kept thinking 'just one more chapter' and something will click and I'll be INVESTED in this book but that never happened. There are some things I'm interested by but not so much that I'm on the edge of my seat, waiting for a sequel. I never really clicked with any of the characters, apart from Evie and Faze 🙌. I understand there's being curious but I felt this book was just questions, upon questions. Some were finally answered but I don't feel like the payoff was worth it. Would I recommend this book? Maybe but that may change after I mull this book over.
