I’m not sure what to even say about this book. I’ve been putting off reading this book for so long, but I’m so happy that I decided to finally read it. I connected with Evelyn on a different level than Daisy Jones, but I definitely connected with them both. I think my favorite husband was Harry. No doubt about it. Celia and Evelyn deserved better. They were soulmates, Evelyn and Harry were Twin Flames and no one can tell me differently. I loved the writing and the writing style! Everything just stood out to me in ways I didn’t expect. Overall, I give this book 5/5 stars, but I won’t read it again, as it’d be too painful.

I truly have no words for how this book made me feel it tore my heart out. I knew it was going to hurt but I didn’t know it was going to be pain after pain after pain.

I absolutely loved this book. I think everyone should read it, especially if you are bi. It covers so many themes and topics. And it is written so well. It made me think about so many things and I could talk about it forever. As a bisexual person It is nice to have a strong main role women be bisexual and not question it and stand up for herself. She never wavered on the fact she was bisexual. She loved a man and a woman. She did what she needed to do to protect herself and the people she loved. She found true love, friendship and family, not in the most convenient way but she did. “I'm bisexual. Don't ignore half of me so you can fit me into a box.” - I think is a great quote cause bi erasure happens so often. She made sure she corrected people and make sure she wasn’t erasures in anyway. I think that is part of why she wanted her whole story out there. The plot twist towards the end really shocked me. Evelyn was wrapping up her life and trying to piece everything together. She wanted closure. I feel for Monique cause she had to spend time with Evelyn when Evelyn could’ve saved her father’s life but chose to try to save her best friend. It’s complicated and messy. But evenlyn also giving her the rights to her book is her way of repaying her, monetary at least. There are so many great quotes in this book. I may have to go back and annotate it.

"Be wary of men with something to prove. Evelyn is a deeply flawed character, which may be one of my favorite things about her. This reads like a Rolling Stone article and I love how this author makes me believe her characters are real people that exist or have existed at one time in my own world. This was such a beautiful story full of emotional ups and downs, and the thing I waited so long to get an answer to at the end really was good and I did not see that coming. I wasnt sure how I would feel about the plot running thru seven different husbands, but it didnt feel too redundant to me (even if it was a bit excessive) but the story was well done and the title is perfect for the theme and the time it was set in, because the title really is just a distraction for the real story. Would I reread this one? Honestly I'm not sure, probably not... BUT I will read whatever TJR puts out, this author is growing to be a fav of mine. Mind the triggers in this also, I did have to step a away a few times, but it was worth it in the end. 🌶️2/5 There are some spicy scenes but they are super tasteful and well written to paint the picture. Some were endearing and others heartbreaking, but overall a good balance in reality and true to the FMCs character. "When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is “You’re safe with me”—that’s intimacy." 📚 Reading Between the Vines: 📚 Click Here to Join a Fun Discord Book Club

I have read this book at least four times, and every time I read it, it obliterates me. It is a character study at its finest; Evelyn Hugo might not have been a real person, but by the time you finish this book, you will be convinced she was. You cannot help but admire the cunning, self-preserving girl who does what she must to follow her ambitions to Hollywood. You cannot help but like her even when she’s done something awful, just because she’s the first to own up to being so. You cannot help but hurt as she reveals every injustice she has suffered throughout her life, because her story is the story of women everywhere. She sacrifices pieces of herself to please others, she steps on those she loves for selfish reasons, she does what she needs to in order to maintain control over the life she has worked for and the life she wants. At the end of the day, she is a nuanced, complex woman who understands each of her contradictions, faults, and strengths, and she doesn’t shy away from them. The result is someone deeply human. She is not bad or good, and even she was she wouldn’t care which you believe her to be. This book is just a masterpiece from start to finish. It is meticulously researched and beautifully written, with a voice that leaps off the page and demands you to listen. If, somehow, you haven’t already picked this up, I cannot recommend it enough.

Wow, this is elegant and emotionally shattering in all the best ways. Evelyn Hugo is a character who is sharp and compelling, but under her story of her seven marriages is a story of identity, sacrifice, and the price of chasing the life you desire. Her relationship with Monique adds another rich layer, tying the past and present together. This is bold, beautiful, brilliantly written, and absolutely a recommended read.
