"You'll fall deeply in love with this enchanting and cozy book, so much so that you’ll want to return to it every fall just to experience it again!"—New York Times bestselling author Breanne Randall

An enchantingly warm and funny novel about family, love lost and found, discovering who you are, and how difficult it is to slay a vampire from the beloved national bestselling author of the TikTok sensation In the Company of Witches.

Cassie Beckett’s life is anything but magical. With a wild younger sister, three unruly kids, and an absent husband, she’s really not looking forward to the witching month of October. At least the gorgeous, foggy Prince Edward Island is always quiet.

That is, until the vampires arrive.

As the creatures sink their teeth into Cassie’s tenuous grip on normalcy, she’s forced to come face-to-face with long–disregarded family secrets. The legacy gifts her with power, but also a lofty responsibility: rid the island of vampires, or let them win. (Both options suck, in more ways than one.)

Armed with her family, newfound friends, and a baby in a spectacularly garlicky onesie, Cassie must learn what it is to be a witch and how to fight for what she loves before time runs out. Because on Halloween night, the stakes will be higher than ever before...and it’s up to Cassie to finish what the witches that came generations before her started.

*“There was something a bit magical about the silence of a room filled with books.”* What I loved: ✿ cozy, fall vibes ✿ independent mom ✿ found family What I disliked: ✿ plot holes ✿ unnecessary character This was a cute little read, but honestly that’s about it. I’m not mad that the plot was high-stakes, but the story and atmosphere itself felt low-stakes. I will say there was absolutely no reason for her to be an army wife because it added absolutely nothing to the story. I understand that it wanted to give us insight to what type of person she is, but that relationship was never addressed nor did that plot point specifically alter her character’s growth. Highly recommend this if you LOVE Practical Magic because it reminded me a lot of that. This was a fun witchy read with a cozy mix of small-town charm and sisterly chaos and added bonus of Buffy meets Practical Magic vibes. I really enjoyed the family dynamics, the older FMC being a mom of three and her relationship with her sister gave the story a realistic feeling that balanced out the magic and mystery nicely. There were definitely a few slower spots where the pacing dragged, but overall it was easy to stay invested because the characters felt so real. One part of the plot that didn’t quite work for me was the bits about the FMCs husband being overseas, it felt unnecessary and didn’t really add to her development or the main story. She didnt seem phased having to do everything herself, and was basically already single mom without her dude… I found myself wondering what he was doing that whole time, but in the end there was a minor resolution for that issue that I suppose was mildly satisfying to the character. 🌶️ 0/5 📚 Reading Between the Vines: 📚 Click Here to Join a Fun Discord Book Club
