This was my first Stephen King book ever and I was so nervous to start this because it’s not what I normally read at all. But I was so pleasantly surprised. I was invested right from the beginning and I loved this. I especially loved the beginning of the book and how half of it was told in interview style, I always love when a book has a unique factor to it. It took me way too long to guess the twist because I was thinking there were not going to be supernatural elements to this, I truly know nothing about Stephen Kings work and I went in completely blind. I enjoyed the a lot of the characters and I’m looking forward to checking more of his work out, specifically the Holly and Bill stories.

*✨ 5 stars ✨* I read this book years ago and loved it, so I was really curious to see how it would hold up—and honestly, I enjoyed it just as much this time around. An eleven-year-old boy is found murdered, and all the evidence points straight to one man: a beloved coach, teacher, and family man. It should be an open-and-shut case -- Except he has an airtight alibi. As the investigation unfolds, the truth only gets stranger—and what should make sense starts to feel impossible. Something isn’t adding up… and the answer is far more unsettling than it seems. I’ve been pretty picky with Stephen King in the past, but this is one that’s always lingered in the back of my mind when I think about what I love in horror. There’s no denying he’s an icon of the genre, and this definitely reminded me why I want to read more of his work this year. The investigative, true-crime style in the beginning is so compelling—especially if that’s your thing. The evidence pulls you in, and the unraveling truth keeps you hooked. Highly recommend this one if you love an author who gives you just enough to piece things together before the characters do—while still managing to surprise you in a way that feels both brilliant and satisfying.
