A Ship of Bones and Teeth
Princess Maren is a woman with a secret.
Ten years ago she sold her soul to the sea witch Edonia, giving up a life underwater in exchange for the love of Prince Aerik on land. But after a decade of abuse and misery inflicted by the cruel prince, Maren wants nothing more than to reverse the spell.
An opportunity for escape presents itself when the prince and princess are traveling overseas and are taken hostage by a band of notorious pirates, led by the fearsome Captain Ramsay "Bones" Battista. Maren has heard the sordid stories about the infamous pirate—not only is his ship supposedly haunted and crewed by the damned, but that no prisoners ever survive.
Fortunately for Maren, she learns that the captain also has a score to settle with the sea witch. With any luck, Maren may be able to get her old life back, even if it's being held in the captain's wicked hands.
But Ramsay gets more than he bargained for when he learns who—and what—Maren is, and that her appetite for revenge, freedom, and bloodlust rivals his.
Meanwhile Maren finds herself falling for the pirate's dark nature, even as she discovers that Ramsay has a secret more deadly than her own.

★★★☆☆ A Ship of Bones and Teeth was a silly, filthy, and occasionally cringe read that I enjoyed for what it was, even if it isn't going to stick with me for very long. The story follows Maren, a young woman who finds herself caught up in a dangerous world of pirates, mermaids, and dark magic after being drawn into a mysterious and forbidden relationship. As she navigates the dangers of the sea and the people who inhabit it, she discovers that there is much more beneath the surface than she initially realized. The pirate and ocean setting sounded like something I should have been completely immersed in, but it ultimately felt more like a backdrop than an integral part of the story. The world-building had some interesting elements, but I wasn't exactly here for the lore. 😉 There were points where I found myself getting a little bored, and the predictability of the plot didn't help. The romance was definitely the highlight for me. I enjoyed the main relationship and their dynamic, and honestly, the smut was probably what kept this book firmly in three-star territory rather than falling lower. There were plenty of fun moments, even if a few crossed over into cheesy or cringe territory. My biggest issues were the writing and pacing. I also found the audiobook narrator a little annoying at times, which made it harder for me to fully immerse myself in the story. Overall, this was entertaining while I was reading it, but I don't think it's going to be particularly memorable for me. I think I'll remember the filthy romance more than the actual story, but sometimes that's enough for a fun three-star read.

Honesly it was a fun book that did not feel like 500 pages! I liked the worldbuilding, even though it was rough around the edges, and the story was interesting enough. I found myself rushing through the smut to get to the plot 🤣 Still, overall it was bland and not very emotionally affecting (aside from the <spoiler>death scenes</spoiler>, which were surprisingly impactful, emotional and brutal).

4.5⭐️ I freaking loved this book! An amazing little mermaid retelling that takes place on a magical pirate ship. Full of magic, mythical sea creatures, feminine rage (in the form of eating men’s hearts) and an awesome love story. This book was so much fun!
