The STEMinist Novellas #1

Under One Roof

A USA Today Bestseller!

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis comes a new steamy, STEMinist novella…

A scientist should never cohabitate with her annoyingly hot nemesis—it leads to combustion.

Mara, Sadie, and Hannah are friends first, scientists always. Though their fields of study might take them to different corners of the world, they can all agree on this universal truth: when it comes to love and science, opposites attract and rivals make you burn…

As an environmental engineer, Mara knows all about the delicate nature of ecosystems. They require balance. And leaving the thermostat alone. And not stealing someone else’s food. And other rules Liam, her detestable big-oil lawyer of a roommate, knows nothing about. Okay, sure, technically she’s the interloper. Liam was already entrenched in his aunt’s house like some glowering grumpy giant when Mara moved in, with his big muscles and kissable mouth just sitting there on the couch tempting respectable scientists to the dark side…but Helena was her mentor and Mara’s not about to move out and give up her inheritance without a fight.

The problem is, living with someone means getting to know them. And the more Mara finds out about Liam, the harder it is to loathe him…and the easier it is to love him.

Okay so.. I don’t have much to say about this one either. It was good, but it wasn’t as good as The Love Hypothesis. Things felt rather rushed, so because of that, I wasn’t connected to Liam and Mara. I liked Mara as a character, but Liam wasn’t… Adam Carlsen. I did like him though, don’t get me wrong. He just wasn’t top tier. Like I said, I don’t really have much to say about this. I give it 3.5/5 stars, but I probably won’t read it again.

4/5 ⭐️ 3/5 🌶️ 📖 My Thoughts A cute novella from Ali, and although short, I giggled and swooned just as much. Her ability to make lovable characters who stand out from each other (at least the women) always surprises me. The men always seem to be summed up in one word; HUGE, and literally in every way. Always recommend! ⚠️ Trigger Warnings Graphic: Sexual content Minor: Misogyny and Sexism 🌶️ Spice The spice in this was really good even if we only get one scene, and in typical Ali fashion, around the 75% mark. Honestly, I’m starting to think Ali knows all of my kinks. I’m always swooning over the sexual chemistry between these characters. The sexual confession the MMC makes is endearing if a little random.

Aww this was adorable. It took me a bit because I got distracted by other books and forgot to finish it but I really enjoyed this novella. It was sweet and fun and I loved the Ace rep in Liam, I actually loved Liam in general. As I always I really wish we got mmc pov in Ali’s books but this was still really good.

This was cute and short. Novellas are a nice lil break in between other bigger reads. This is the first of AHs books ive read that doesnt have a 3rd act breakup so thats also appreciated, although being so short there really isnt room for it… A cute forced proximity, hate to love. The ending could of maybe had a longer epilogue but it was fine as is. I liked how their friend was setting them up from beyond the grave, that was a nice little touch, even if the FMC didnt really catch onto that… 🌶️ 2/5 The spice was subtle, but hot. It didnt really explain why the MMC didnt “like” sex (normally) - maybe a little more background on that would of been nice.

Mara inherits a house from her mentor. She is super excited about this house. She goes to move in and find the mentor's nephew, Liam, already living there. They reluctantly become roommates. They struggle to find common ground and mess with one another constantly. After a huge blow-up, they finally come to a truce. This was a great short story, and I really enjoyed it. I loved seeing Mara and Liam finally getting to know each other and realize how much they had in common.
