Red Rising Saga #2

Golden Son

Pierce Brown

4.81

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom.

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR, BUZZFEED, AND BOOKLIST • “Gripping . . . On virtually every level, this is a sequel that hates sequels—a perfect fit for a hero who already defies the tropes. [Grade:] A”—Entertainment Weekly

As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within.

A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind’s destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo’s principles of love and justice to free his people.

He must live for more.

Praise for Golden Son

“Stirring . . . Comparisons to The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones series are inevitable, for this tale has elements of both.”—Kirkus Reviews

“Brown writes layered, flawed characters . . . but plot is his most breathtaking strength. . . . Every action seems to flow into the next.”—NPR

I don’t even know what to say. The last 100 pages of this book were giving a SJM novel so much was going on I was truly screaming. I didn’t expect more than half of those twists they truly had me gasping. I need the next book because I have no idea where we are going from here, just when everything was going to plan shit went crazy. I still am finding it hard to care for the most of the characters in this book which is to be expected with the theme of the book, but I can always count on Sevro showing up and bringing some comedic relief to the story.

Damn so much unfolds in this one.. I would go to put it down and then something would catch my attention like WAIT… the betrayals, heartbreak, and the second you think “yes we are going to win this one” something comes along and fucks it all up. I love it when a story pushes the limits like that and when things don’t go as planned it’s a really fun twist. There were quite a few things I was not expecting or had trouble predicting in this and I really enjoyed that about this one. Looking forward to more of this series. 🌶️ 1/5 Again a few vague spicy scened, fade to black but emotional enough since these MCs have grown on me. The relationship in this with them is heartbreaking, like you keep getting led to the water hole and then realize the water has been poisoned… it’s pretty intense.

DNFed around 65%. Simply put, I’m bored af. I have way too many books I want to read to hope this book/series gets better. I liked the first book but this one felt like 90% dialogue of what the next move will be. I just don’t like it enough to continue the series which is a bummer because I had really high hopes for this.
