In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King's Champion.

Her name is Celaena Sardothien.

The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it's there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena's fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival-and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.

EDIT: Still a 4.5 this time. I really did enjoy this one still, and as I get further into the series again, I'll definitely miss the days of running around the glass castle. _____________ Edit: Keeping this one as 4.5 this time! I still enjoyed it. _____________ Edit: Every time I re-read this one in particular, it's always difficult to decide on a rating. I think I'm moving it back to 4.5 stars! I still loved it> _____________ EDIT: Okay, so I think I'm moving this up to a 4.75 rating this time! It was almost 5 stars, but it didn't quite reach it. I can honestly say I'm team Dorian. I love that man with my entire soul 🥹. I'm very excited to continue with my series reread! _____________ Okay, so, when I read this for the first time almost two years ago, I think I gave it 5/5 stars. However, upon rereading it, it’s gone down to a 4.5/5 star rating. Now, don’t get me wrong; I loved this book. I really did. I just think that it was a bit.. less mature than the other books in this series. I did enjoy it though, so don’t think I didn’t. This time, though, I think I’m team Chaol. I love Dorian. I do. But, Chaol in this book owned my heart. I loved him so much. Overall, I give this book 4.5/5 stars, and even though I enjoyed it, I don’t think it’s a 5 star read, but I’ll probably read it again at some point!

I enjoyed the story a lot, I kept getting surprised by literally every twist and turn this story took. I love the fact that I have managed to avoid spoilers of this entire series bc that makes the reading so much more fun. SJM your writing is insane. You can write emotions so well and my gosh the poetic lines you threw in there every so often... The series has really started of super strong. I felt like I needed to get used to this storyline after finishing Assassin's Blade first, but after only a few chapters that happened really quick though. The Dorian vs Chaol love triangle sometimes annoyed me especially in the beginning bc I hated Dorian. But yes, Dorian grew on me so so much. While I still LOVE Chaol, I do really like Dorian too. (How am I the one that is conflicted now???) Anywayyyyssss on to the next one!!

*❝ You could rattle the stars. You could do anything, if you only dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most. ❞* ❥ My thoughts Upon rereading, I am finally posting a review and have even bumped my rating up to five stars. This series is a timeless masterpiece made for rereads because you can never fully appreciate its depths the first time around. You can tell Sarah laid down the foundation of this series masterfully before even beginning to write the first chapter. My love for Celaena has only deepened in Throne of Glass since I decided to read AB first this time around. I love that after her hardships from AB, we get to see Celaena's "I'm just a girl" side, the side of her that desperately wants friendship, to stay up late playing games and talking about her dreams, to flirt with boys and go to balls. The dynamic between her, Chaol, and Dorian is so much fun. But alas, Celaena was made to do hard, wondrous things. With the events that unfold in this book, you realize that as much as you want freedom and peace for her, the hardships have only just begun. Highly recommend this series if you love a coming-of-age story about a badass female lead. ❥ Trigger warnings Graphic: Violence, Murder, Blood Moderate: Slavery, Death of parent, Death Minor: Vomit, Rape, War [Follow my Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/inkstainedemotions?igsh=aTh6eTZ6dGwxMXpy&utm_source=qr)

I enjoyed this book, I’m excited to find out what happens next and with the love triangle too. The book is well written, and the characters have so much depth. I’m torn between my favourite being Celaena or Nehemia, they are both so strong and amazing. They are fighting for what they need and hopefully will be working together soon. I am torn between Dorian and Chaol, but I think I like Chaol more, he definitely has a hard outside but I think he is softer inside. He has to be to be the kings guard, it will be interesting to see how his personal beliefs/wants and the kings plans/wants match up, or not. Also similarly with Dorian, it is more obvious in this story he disagrees with his father often, which he is father is dismissing as him being young, but it should play out interestingly. Especially if the king plans to separate this group or to harm them.

April 2025 (reread) There were quite a few things I missed reading this the first time around, more witches lore, the darkness that lurks... tiny details I didnt quite catch on the last read. I am excited to be rereading and I think maybe this time... if I had to pick (not considering any future books in this series) I'd be team #Dorian... guess I'll be fighting my past self 😂 March 2024 - Right off the bat I’m invested in Celaena, and I think part of that was starting AB first. I laugh and snicker at her love of getting under someone’s skin and her bluntness lol. I love how she’s always staying up late reading. I also relate with her that the few friends she makes often disappoint, but I was happy to see she finally has made some true friends in this one. I was proud of her for focusing on her future and not wanting to attach herself in relationships that would be distracting and bad politically, but I also really wanted some smut, the tension was there… I suppose the plot and pacing were fine without it. Im team #Chaol tho, fight me.
