Most romcoms, in my experience, have a distinct pattern/formula which usually results in a 3rd act breakup. And thats fine, but this was probably one of the roughest ones I've read. I was so invested in these MCs, and even knowing this would come and everything would be fine, I still had to set the book down and say to myself: fuck. This had a strong underlayment of healing and growing from all kinds of abuse and toxic relationships throughout and I always appreciate the care it takes in fleshing out those experiences, because irl a lot of people don't even realize they are in it until its too late and they are in too deep. I related a lot with the FMC and her constant comparison to her ex and current "fling" - that deep feeling of all the time wasted normalizing other peoples toxicity and the realization that its not ok really hit home for me. One of my favorite quotes in this was where I read "he empowered her, instead of stripping her" - and THAT is the epitome of what a healthy relationship looks like. 🌶️ 3/5 - In the first 5% i was so mad the first spice scene was a fade to black, I almost threw my ereader across the room 😂 NEGATIVE CHILIS! haha... The spice in this was cute, purposeful, and I enjoyed it. It wasnt overdone, and paced itself thoroughly that was fitting of a fresh relationship turned into something more.

this was enjoyable, but I wouldn't consider it a standout of Abby Jimenez's. to me, it wasn't especially exciting or suited to my tastes, but I had fun reading it.
