The Empyrean #2

Iron Flame

Rebecca Yarros

4.76

I'm violently ill and I'm in pain. I loved this book, and I want book three now. I'm actually speechless while writing this, and I think this is another book where I'll keep the review short. What The Fuck Was That Fucking Ending. That was my review. 5/5 stars.

Honestly rereading has caused me more distress than i felt the first time I read it. I feel so unprepared for Onyx Storm after that ending 🫠

The first time I tried to read this I couldn’t get through the first couple of chapters, I felt like nothing was happening and that it wasn’t as good as the first book. This time I felt better about it, combo reading it with the audiobook helped a lot but I still think that the editing was rushed on this one in order to get it out as fast as possible. That being said I still adore the characters and the world so much and I can’t wait to continue especially with that ending!! I need more now

"The breath of life of the six and the one combined and set the stone ablaze in an iron flame." 💭 My Thoughts This will be my second read of Iron Flame in preparation for Onyx Storm, and I'm so glad I decided to do a reread because this book is jam packed. When I first read it, I was overwhelmed. Going into it a second time, I think I love it even more. I love all the non-stop action and lore that is constantly dropped. While I have lots of questions and feel that some things could be better explained or executed, I love it all the same. It's easy to hate on authors for not writing things exactly how we think they should but writing a series of this magnitude takes dedication and time. Aside from Xaden and Violet, Tairn and Andarna are hands down the best characters. I love Tairn's cat-like energy and Andarna has some fun phases all on her own. All the characters that I came to love from the first book are still just as enjoyable in this book. We are introduced to some new characters, and while all of them aren't as interesting or fun as others, they round out the story. Even the bad guys and ass-kissers bring something to the assembly table; however, no one but Xaden and Violet get to sit on the throne. ⚠️ Trigger Warnings Graphic: Sexual content, Violence, Torture Moderate: Death of parent, War, Death Minor: Vomit, Fire/Fire injury, Animal death 🌶️ Spice While the spice is iconic in this and I love it, I have to say everything else overpowers it. The non-stop action, betrayal, lore. I'm not even mad about it because I find it hard to get into fantasy at times, so if anything besides spice can grab my attention, I'm impressed. That being said, the creativity with the spice was really hot. Shower, a throne... I'll stop there. Iron Flame As with Fourth Wing I genuinely enjoyed this book. It has the perfect mix of romance, adventure, humour and seriousness. Getting to see more of Violet’s bond with her dragons and working through everything with her friends, family and Xaden I again loved how fast paced the book is, it’s a long read but I was never bored! There were a lot of new people, and a lot of people lost. Spoilers Ahead I love Tairn and Andarna’s relationship, especially as she is going through her adolescence years! The three of them together is such a fun and unique bond. Also getting to see Violet and her siblings all reunite really was amazing (even tho there was a punch, but I don’t blame her) I also was so glad Dain finally got it together. I have so many questions going into the third book but I don’t want to have any major spoilers! But the very last thing that happens OMG! I really hope they can find a cure.
