At least, he's not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

EDIT: Not changing my rating this time. Still a 4.5/5 for me. ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ -------------------------------------------- Edit: I finally reread this with my dear friend (reading the whole sjm verse woohoo) and I can honestly say I actually really liked it this time. Still a 4.5/5 for me. ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ Edited I got my grubby hands on the dramatized audiobook for this, and I actually enjoyed it a little more this time. It still felt like it dragged on at times, but I did enjoy it. I think my rating this time has been bumped to a 4.5/5 stars :). ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ I'm honestly not sure what to actually say about this book. I'd been putting this book off for.. about two years, but I'm actually glad that I finally read it. I was worried that, after reading Kingdom of Ash, I wouldn't feel ready for this yet. However, I actually really enjoyed this! I'm excited to see where Feyre's story goes from here. So many people hate Tamlin, but I'm trying to figure out why, along with why people love Rhys. Tamlin was one of the only ones who actually cared about Feyre since the beginning. Rhys.. well, he was just a douche. Also, can we just talk about.. Lucien. This man.. oh my God. I love him so much. He was honestly one of my favorite parts of this book. If I thought Maeve from Throne of Glass was bad, she was nothing compared to Amarantha. At least Maeve didn't keep someone's eye in a ring 😀. Overall, I give this book 4/5 stars, and I'll definitely continue with the series. Lucien reminded me so much of Fenrys and Flynn Rider. I love him. That is all. 😊

★★★★☆ Rereading A Court of Thorns and Roses was such an interesting experience. I felt a little nostalgic coming back to it, but it also felt different now that I've grown so much as a reader since my first time through the series. Knowing where the story eventually goes made this reread less suspenseful, but I found myself enjoying it in a different way. I giggled more at little moments and “inside jokes” that I wouldn't have understood the first time around. Some of the things the characters say carry so much more meaning when you already know the full story, and I loved picking up on those details. The world-building was probably the weakest part for me this time around. It's perfectly fine, but I've read books with much more immersive and intricate worlds since my first read. Prythian feels more like a backdrop than something that pulls me in, but honestly, I'm here for the romantasy, and this series delivers that. I also enjoyed the romance more this time around. There are certain dynamics that, if you know, you know. 👀 Knowing the full series made some of those moments much more fun to read, even if Feyre still isn't a character I particularly connect with. She feels somewhat surface-level compared to some of the protagonists I've read since my first time through the series. ACOTAR still doesn't have that five-star spark for me, but it's an enjoyable read that I'll always have a soft spot for. There's something comforting about returning to a story you already know, especially when you get to experience all those little moments with the knowledge of what's still to come.

The world building in this story was beautiful, I really would love to see some of it illustrated. As for the story goes, I did enjoy it. I thought it was well written and I am genuinely excited to read the next book in the series. Spoilers Ahead The relationships between Feyre, Tamlin, Lucien and Rhysand are all equally interesting. I really think Fey and Tamlin are cute, but I also like Rhys, even though he was awful. I feel like the entire time he had a bigger plan going on then he let on. They are rather smart people. I am excited to read the next book to see what the world is like with full powers and not someone crushing them all. I do enjoy the wittyness of Feyre, I enjoy books with strong female leads, she can stand her own and is determined. I love how much she cares for her family, and I hope we get to see them again, doing well. I am sure she will be a major force in the coming books.

Reread Dramatization Audio This was a little jarring, lots of background noises I kinda wish I could adjust the level on. The crying parts were just... omg i wanted to turn it off... but as I got near the end I got used to it and enjoyed it. Tam hits different on a reread tho ngl lol Original Review This was my first big romantasy series and I gotta say this author did not disappoint, she made me love characters than hate them, she set up plot points that had me guessing until the end, and then carried some of that into further books - and even the things I did guess ahead I was still surprised and enjoyed watching unfold. I can see why this series is as popular as it is, and I ate it up. Spice level was a bit teasing, but after having a few series similar to this under my belt Ive learned that is often the case with the first book or 2 in a romantasy series.

Definitely an enjoyable read, but not utterly groundbreaking. I feel like the quality of the writing itself isn't up to par with how well she was writing Throne of Glass at the time, but it's not bad. It's definitely interesting to see the kernels she laid out for future books (which also makes the romance a little cringe if you know where it's going), and makes a reread fun. I get why it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I stand by it.
