An insightful, delightful, instant #1 New York Times bestseller from the author of Funny Story.
“One of my favorite authors.”—Colleen Hoover
One summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn't see coming...
Nora Stephens' life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine. Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart. In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby.
Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story. But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute.
If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves.

I adored every single second of this book. The banter between the two mcs was to die for, some of the best I’ve read. Every single second they were on page together I was smiling and giggling at them. (That or crying) I was so nervous to start my first Emily Henry book because she’s so hyped I thought it might fall flat. But all the hype is deserved because I loved this book so much. The only thing I didn’t like about this book was the mcs sister everything about her pissed me off to no end. She was so selfish and manipulative that everytime we saw her I wanted to throw something. But I’m not holding that against this book because that’s how good it was. I can’t wait to read all of her others too.

Oh man… the snark in this is top tier. I laughed soooo much throughout this. These MCs were so perfectly intense, and perfectly mean to each other, which was so great. I know that doesnt seem great, it was truly endearing and fitting for the “not your typical romcom” vibe. The sister, was not my favorite, but still worked out fine for the story. It kind of seemed like she was deliberately hiding things for the sake of plot… Did it work for the story, sure, was it also incredibly frustrating, also yes. Great book, loved it, kicking and screaming while smiling with knives. 🌶️ 3/5 FFS this was such a slow burn, so fucking hot, but also incredibly tense and had me rearing - how many fucking times can you be interrupted?? Too many eye roll - but it was so good, I loved the chemistry with these MCs. The spice was not overly descriptive tho once it finally hit, but still pretty enjoyable despite that.

This sits at a solid 4-star read for me. I really enjoyed it, but I can’t get behind the miscommunication trope ever—made worse so because it was sisters who couldn’t talk to each other instead of lovers. I really don’t like Libby. I’m thankful for her “gift” at the end, but that doesn’t fully excuse everything else for me. Also, I can’t rate this higher because I also really hate books that end with “we went our separate ways after enjoying a time together.” Like I know that didn’t really happen because of the “gift,” again. But otherwise, that’s how it would’ve ended and I don’t like that. I do wanna give Nora kudos though as a character for not caving on the ‘doing what she wants’ thing. I was really scared for a minute that she wouldn’t. And Charlie? Chef’s kiss of a love interest. I didn’t like this as much as “Beach Read,” but it was a fun time nonetheless.

Nora is a literary agent, so books are her life, and she works hard for her clients. When her sister, Libby, begs Nora to go on vacation with her to none other than Sunshine Falls, the setting of one of her author's books. She agrees, and they plan to enjoy their time together. Once in Sunshine Falls, she continually runs into Charlie, an editor that she's avoided as much as possible since their first disastrous meeting. They slowly become friends and work together to edit her author's book. I loved this story so much! I loved seeing Nora get her happy ending without having to sacrifice herself. She's been taking care of everyone else around her that she's forgotten to take care of herself... that is until Charlie. He pushes for her to do what makes her happy no matter what! I loved how they both have had issues in the past for being "unloveable," but to each other, they are everything!
