NOW A NETFLIX FILM! • From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Funny Story comes a sparkling novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

Sigh... Siri, add Alex Nilsen to the "Absolutely Swoon-worthy Book Boyfriend's" list.

This was cute, I enjoyed reading it. It had some good life lessons and that almost cliche message of "home is where the heart is" buried in it. The back and forth between the past and present was interesting, I like when books do that sometimes. I loved the banter and quick wit these two had, that alone kinda made them a good match. I find it a little difficult to believe they let this go on for 12 years before finally figuring their shit out, very messily and uncommunicatively, but it made for a good story. 🌶️ 1/5 There was really only like 1 spicy scene... it wasn't too crazy, but I think it fit the characters well. There was good tension build up. Would definitely consider this a slow burn.

This book was funny, fresh, and fast-paced. I really, really enjoyed it. The back and forth of the chapters, told through the different summers of Poppy and Alex’s lives, was well done. And I loved their undeniable chemistry. Oftentimes, I find myself questioning the validity of fictional couples and their ability to make it work, but I do think that these two would make it work, all things considered. My one gripe with this story is the chapter about the Croatia trip itself. Throughout the whole book, this trip is hyped up to be this absolute disaster for the pairing. But in my opinion, it’s really not that bad. Still, a really great read.

Poppy and Alex are complete opposites. But they have somehow become each other's best friend. Poppy wants to travel the world and see new places. While Alex is happy staying in their small town. Poppy convinces him to go with her each summer on a vacation (while she works). They enjoyed these vacations until the vacation 2 years ago, and they haven't talked since. Poppy is desperate and misses Alex, so she reaches out and asks him to go on their vacation with her. He agrees. This vacation ends up being disaster after disaster until they finally break. I really enjoyed this story! Alex and Poppy have so many differences that you would think they wouldn't work out together, but they just do. They balance each other out so well.
