OOH YES. I had such a good time with this book. I already love the Dark Forces universe, so picking this up felt like being handed a little treat and told to have fun. And fun was had. A concerning amount of fun, actually. I devoured this book at an alarming speed. KM Moronova continues to prove that she is completely unwell (complimentary). There is just something about the way she writes romance that scratches a very specific part of my brain. The dark twists, the tension, the chemistry, the emotional damage disguised as entertainment—it is all excellent. And THE PLOT TWIST. Excuse me? I did not know what I would expect, but this sure ain't it. Roman and Briar are exactly the kind of characters I love reading about: messy, flawed, stubborn, and deeply entertaining disasters. Every time they were on page together, I was fully invested. Their chemistry felt natural, their banter kept me entertained, and their dynamic had me constantly swinging between rooting for them and wanting to lock them in a room until they learned how to communicate like functioning adults. Was this book life-changing? No. Did it cure my problems? Also no. Did it provide several hours of pure entertainment while emotionally drop-kicking me down a flight of stairs? Absolutely.
