Broken Play delivers everything I crave in an emotional, gut-wrenching romance—cheating, second chances, and a marriage on the brink. These tropes are my guilty pleasure, and Alison Rhymes executes them with remarkable depth and honesty. This is not just a story about infidelity; it’s about growth, self-discovery, and the painful path to healing. Over the course of a year, we witness profound transformation in both Drew and June. Drew’s journey, in particular, is filled with intense groveling—and rightfully so. I loved that June didn’t let him off the hook easily. She made him earn every ounce of forgiveness, which felt both satisfying and authentic. Rhymes did something special with Drew’s character. I hated him, yet I couldn’t stop rooting for him. That emotional conflict is a testament to the author’s talent in crafting complex, realistic characters. June’s lifelong love for Drew, her brother’s best friend, adds another layer of tension and poignancy. Knowing that Drew had always loved her too—even if it took him a while to realize—made the eventual reconciliation feel earned and heartfelt. The side characters also shine, adding humor, heart, and perspective to the story. Most importantly, this book doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable truths of betrayal. It portrays the messiness of love, regret, and redemption in a way that feels honest and raw. I’m thrilled that Alison Rhymes had the courage to write a cheating story in a genre that often shies away from the trope. Broken Play is bold, emotional, and beautifully executed. Highly recommended for readers who love their romance with a side of heartbreak and hope.
