The second volume in the phenomenal Fae & Alchemy trilogy, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Callie Hart, features more heart-stopping drama, even higher stakes, and far deadlier consequences.

Duty. Blood. Honor. Power.

Saeris Fane never asked for power, but as the newly crowned ruler of the vampire court, she’s discovering that sometimes even queens don’t get what they want.

Saeris is desperately needed back in Zilvaren, but the recent changes that have strengthened her have also made her weak. With no reprieve from its punishing suns, the realm she once called home will likely kill her if she returns. Saeris must send someone in her stead…but does falling for Fisher mean that she can trust him?

Kingfisher of the Ajun Gate has defeated armies and survived hell, but this might just be the death of him. With a mysterious curse crippling Yvelia, the last thing Fisher wants to do is leave his lands and his people, but he made Saeris a promise—a promise he now intends to keep.

As darkness falls across Yvelia, Saeris and Fisher must pass through fire and brimstone to save both their realms and the people they love.

Trigger warning: Brimstone describes graphic violence and adult situations, and is for readers 17+.

I truly don’t even know what to say right now. Some parts of this did fee a little slow at the beginning but I loved it so much and the end was so action packed it more than made up for it. This book definitely still made me feel all the things, it had me giggling, fanning myself, on the edge of my seat, screaming and even sobbing. I love the cast of characters in this series so much. Saeris and Kingfisher dual POV was absolutely everything I could have hoped for and more. The love that man has for her is UNREAL truly no one can compete with Kingfisher and the love he has for Saeris. And Saeris is such an amazing fmc so incredibly strong and powerful she had me screaming and amazing by her so many times. I absolutely cannot wait to see what else we are going to get from her. All the side characters are also amazing and I can’t wait for the side novellas to see which POVs we get because I am absolutely going to eat them up. HOWEVER Hayden Fane when I catch you I SWEAR 🤬 Also Onyx 🥺🥺😭😭 I love that little Fox with my whole heart, he’s definitely moved up to be my favourite animal sidekick. There were a couple errors in this that took me out for a second but I’m trying really hard not to let them cloud my judgment on this book. While I immediately want to read the next book I also hope it has enough time to fully develop and have a good edit done. THE END.

I feel like this book was more clunky than Quicksilver. There was a lot happening but some things were never resolved or explained which left it feeling a bit disjointed. However, I enjoyed my time thoroughly. I realised half way through just how much I love being in this world and with it's characters. It was going to be 3.75 stars but once again, Callie knows how to end a book. The ending alone brought it to 4 and now I need the last piece of the puzzle. Lastly..... No disrespect to Callie whatsoever, after 1200+ pages, I can't just switch to Kingfisher's true name so easily. It is a beautiful name but it doesn't feel right either.

3.5 ⭐ Mhmm. So that happened. Mildly disappointed with the progression and how the plot felt kind of lost in the middle bit. At the end of the day I still love this world and the characters, and I will continue the series.
