“Gothic horror for the ages…Combining shiver-inducing horror with sharp-fanged social commentary, this more that merits comparison to Dracula and other genre titans.”— Publishers Weekly, Starred Review

“I’m in your blood, and you are in mine…”
The Netherlands, 1887. Lucy’s twin sister Sarah is unwell. She refuses to eat, mumbles nonsensically, and is increasingly obsessed with a centuries-old corpse recently discovered on her husband’s grand estate. The doctor has diagnosed her with temporary insanity caused by a fever of the brain. To protect her twin from a terrible fate in a lunatic asylum, Lucy must unravel the mystery surrounding her sister’s condition, but it’s clear her twin is hiding something. Then again, Lucy is harboring secrets of her own, too.
Then, the worst happens. Sarah’s behavior takes a turn for the strange. She becomes angry… and hungry.
Lucy soon comes to suspect that something is trying to possess her beloved sister. Or is it madness? As Sarah changes before her very eyes, Lucy must reckon with the dark, monstrous truth, or risk losing her forever.

*"I'm in your blood, and you are in mine…"* What I loved: ✿ the narrator's accent ✿ historical setting ✿ gothic atmosphere ✿ deeply unsettling ✿ haunting prose There are so many things I LOVED about this book that the list above would be far too long, and I don't want to give too much away because it's best to go in blind. Honestly, I went into this not knowing what to expect, later thinking I finally knew what was going on, only for that theory to be shot to hell. All I can say is to let the story guide you. Be prepared to be enchanted one moment and disturbed in the next. Johanna is a new author to me, and I must say she captured the essence of gothic horror perfectly. Highly recommend this read if you love gothic horror and don't mind being a little disturbed. Trigger warnings: Gore, Blood, Body horror, Child death, Sexual content, Forced institutionalization, Animal cruelty, Death of parent, Child abuse [✿ Connect with me on instagram ✿](https://www.instagram.com/literarily_laurynn?igsh=aTh6eTZ6dGwxMXpy&utm_source=qr)

This story of twisted platonic love destroyed me in the best way possible. It was gorey, it was gross, and it was riddled with gothic horror. I loved every second of this and wished it wouldnt end. I loved the twist on vampirism and the metal backstory it gave. Lucy was a little freak and it was interesting to read about. 10/10 would recommend.
