Black Wings & Stolen Things
The Fractured Rhymes series by Kayleigh King is about to get a lot more wicked.
I've been called a lot of names. Depraved. Monster. Unhinged. I never thought I'd see the day someone called me "husband."
Me? Have a wife? It's a terrible idea all around, but once I saw her, there wasn't a chance in hell I was walking away.
Rionach Moran. The Irish mob's very own princess. So pretty and poised, you'd never guess there's fire burning in her veins. She keeps it hidden behind her reserved mask, but I can see it.
I see her.
My obsession was instant and all-consuming. When her father tried to marry her off to my enemy, I knew I had to act fast.
They think I've stolen my bride, but I know I've freed her.
This is a dark forced marriage romance with a guaranteed HEA. While some characters in this book appear or are mentioned in Golden Wings & Pretty Things or Butterflies & Vicious Lies, Black Wings & Stolen Things can be enjoyed as a complete standalone. Listening to the previous books will give you a little bit more insight into the characters, but it is not mandatory to enjoy this story.

3.75 ⭐ I enjoyed Rionach & Emeric's story. Rionach was strong, spirited & clever, but hid herself behind a mask of the perfectly behaved, bland, well-behaved & meek mafia princess so no one could see the real person beneath, which is someone who gets off on fear & is an adrenaline junky. Emeric noticed her mask immediately, followed her, & saw the fire she had kept hidden and wishes to ignite it. Emeric's childhood was brutal & messed up. Emeric loved her spirit and wanted to set her free; he didn't wish to control her just to keep her safe. I really liked how protective, caring, sexy, obsessed, and loving he was. He saved her from a marriage to a psychotic butcher who would have probably killed her after she gave him an heir. Her family only cared about what she could bring them through marriage; her parents had no love for her. Their first time together was lackluster; it didn't feel like anything special. I wanted to feel the all consuming lust he had for her. Their wedding, shortly after, was one of the more memorable ones I have read. The cock warming needed for him to sleep was sort of sweet & funny. There were some good side characters in the story that I would like to see get their own books. The ending had a bit of a surprise to it. I hope the next book will continue with that story. It was fantastic how he taught her a lesson about leaving the penthouse by herself “You motherfucker!” I shout, completely forgoing my detached mask and not caring that his men are witnessing my meltdown. “Hello, princess.” I was displeased when he drugged her & had the Dr. instruct him on how to remove her iud, at least he told her what he did the next day and didn't keep it a secret. She also expressed how mad she was at him for violating her right to make the decision. I’ve found it’s just not as fun doing this job if people aren’t pissed or shooting at you. In this world, if no one is trying to kill you, you’re just doing it wrong. Her parents barely put up a fight for their daughter; meanwhile, I’d paint my city red with blood if someone tries to take her from me. My wife will need to be pulled from my cold, dead hands for me to willingly give her up. “I’m not very motivated by stickers, no matter what whimsical shape they might come in. I will, however, gladly take a blow job as my reward.” All I can manage to do as he spits the combination of our cum and my blood between my lips is take a shallow breath. The sinister look of approval shining back at me when I swallow down what he’s offered me nearly has me falling to my knees for him. “I’m already prepared to burn down this entire fucking city for you if I have to. You don’t think I’d protect our children just as fiercely? You don’t think I’d cherish them as much as I cherish you? If that’s the case, I have failed at showing you how important you are to me.” My lips are a hairsbreadth away from his as I whisper, “I’m still really fucking pissed at you, and I will be finding a creative way to make you pay because what you did is not okay.” “It’s okay, princess, I can take it.” And then he kisses me. “How did you know I was meant to be yours so fast?” “When I looked at you, it was like I’d found my reason to breathe.”
