*✨ 2 stars ✨* Pre-read: My husband has been asking me to read this for awhile, and it was a book club pick so why not. Jazz Bashara is a smuggler on the moon who gets the opportunity to pull off a high-stakes crime for a massive payout. But when the job goes sideways, she ends up tangled in a conspiracy much bigger than she ever expected. This... was just an okay read for me. Once again, I'm reminded why men writing women can be kind of cringe sometimes. I guess Weir thinks that because it's a female protagonist, there needs to be romance. And okay, fair—I do love my romance books. But this came across as a male personality with boobs strapped on. Andy Weir also loves to make jokes. A lot. I found it really hard to follow and take the plot seriously with the constant joking. This is how I felt with PHM as well, though PHM leaned more into soft sci-fi while Artemis is a bit harder. To be completely honest, I'm not sure what works for me when it comes to sci-fi. I feel like I could enjoy the genre more if it weren't in Weir's hands. That sounds really harsh, but honestly, I can absolutely see why people love his books so much. They're just not my cup of tea. I loved the narrator on this one. I also found this way easier to follow (book-wise) than Project Hail Mary, and will be for sure giving The Martian a try sometime later when I get the hankering for some more SciFi. There wasn't anything too crazy that gave it like a shock factor, or twist elements that were not predictable, but it was a good one to put on in the background for some white noise while I did other tasks.

Loved the story, but I just wished it was a bit longer. The end seemed a bit rushed.
