Animal Farm
The animals of Manor Farm have revolted and taken over. Upon the death of Old Major, pigs Snowball and Napoleon lead a revolt against Mr. Jones, driving him from the farm. The animals embrace the Seven Commandments of Animalism and life carries on, but in this classic dystopian novel, they learn that a farm ruled by animals looks more human than ever.

Animal Farm by George Orwell 5★ (Paperback, an old family hand-me-down Audiobook (from itunes), read by Ralph Cosham) I was finding this hard to review. I had the paperback and the audiobook on itunes for ages. Untouched. Well this is a short read for one, so that was a plus. And I listened to the introduction and what not on my audiobook (from itunes). One of the opinions is that this a fairy tale like story. And I love those kinds of stories and so that's why I gave this a go. I was a little turned off by this because my sister had read this in her teens and it profoundly changed her views on the treatment of animals. So I dug out the paperback so that I can really follow along with the audio. I think without the audio, I wouldn't have enjoyed this as much. Ralph Cosham did a good job reading this. I really liked his singing for "Beasts of England." And his accents were a nice touch. I think the fairy tale is there, along with it's political statements and that animals do have feelings. Definitely a complex short book. And the ending had left me a curious thought. Had the pigs' physical features transformed to human? And had the humans transformed to look like pigs? I thought it was both. That their true selves had been revealed

The book itself was allright. It was written in a funny way about some very blatant political statements. I like the general message the book is telling about history repeating itself. Two quotes that many people have mentioned before and I really loved: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others." "The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which." I did find it hard to rate and a two star is not perse a bad book because the book itself was all right. I think the message and statement that was made was the most important part. HOWEVER I do rate my books based on my emotional feelings towards a book and was this a book that I loved reading and will be obsessing about for weeks? No it is not. Does that make it a bad book? Nope it does not.

I just don't think this book was for me. I can see why people would like it, especially with the current political climate in many countries, but for me it just didn't hit right. I didn't like the characters and the storyline just trundled along. Maybe that's the point? I listened to the audio so maybe it was the narrator? I may try reading it in the future.

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to get round to reading this, it was so good! The way things happened with the animals was such a good comparison to reality and it shows just how easy it is to slip into complacency
