”Botany flowers lately..” 💭 My thoughts You know, I was about to chalk it up to the fact that I dislike magical realism but I don’t think that’s it at all. There are several books with magical realism that I love and that are written well. The writing in this was scattered and confused. Yes, I said it. I’m not confused, the book is confused. Personally, I think that this story could have worked out better had we known we were dealing with magical realism from the beginning. The author wanted it to be a big shock factor or twist but ultimately made magical realism the entire plot. I was so focused on this aspect that I found it hard to care about the characters, the story, and the history. I’m not going to acknowledge the spice in this because like real-life relationships, if there is no connection for me, I can’t find it in myself to care. ⚠️ Trigger warnings Graphic: Suicide, Racism, Death Moderate: Cancer, Terminal illness, Death of parent Minor: Miscarriage, Fire/Fire injury, Drug use Follow my Instagram

This was interesting, its felt experimental to an extent and a little scattered. I would probably give this a 3.5 rounded up to 4. I really loved this authors other book (Seven Days in June) - I feel like this one was lacking in some kinda of urgency despite the MCs having a very specific “expiration date” - I really loved the characters in this, they had heart and sass and there was a whimsy about the story that even though it was often not something I could personally relate to, I still felt the passion resonate behind each moment, even if some of it was predictable. 🌶️ 3/5 The first few spicy scenes were ugh so hot, especially the ones involving the piano lol I did struggle to follow along with logistics in some of it, but it was a good read and the characters seemed to have this magnetism that pulled them to one another.
